KINGWOOD – County employees will be receiving their second COVID-19 vaccination by Friday.
County Administrator Kathy Mace said everyone who wanted the vaccination has received it.
At the Feb. 2 meeting Preston County Health Department Director V. J. Davis said Preston County would receive 300 doses of the vaccine this week.
He recommended people register with the state system at vaccinate.wv.gov or call the vaccine hotline: 833-734-0965. Anyone can register, regardless of age, and they will be notified when vaccines are available.
The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services latest report puts Preston County at 2,461 positive cases.
In other business, commissioners received a request for $3,000 from the Tucker Community Foundation for its Run For It Program.
Run For It organizations sponsor teams for a run/walk. Additional cash awards come through funds from race sponsors. Preston organizations can receive more than the $3,000 from the county.
Run for It raises funds and awareness for community organizations, projects, nonprofit agencies, educational activities and charities located within the foundation’s service area.
Any nonprofit 501c3 can apply to join the team. The team must have five members. Due to COVID, this year’s event will be virtual.
Jeff Fellows, who spoke to the commission about the program, said past participants include Friends of the Cheat, Arthurdale Heritage, The Preston County Humane Society and The Rowlesburg Runners.
Information about the event can be found at https://www.tuckerfoundation.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/2020-RFI-Event-Packet-Final.pdf.
Commissioners also approved sending a letter of appreciation to Delegate Buck Jennings, a letter of support to the Economic Development Agency for Dinkenburger Road, and a letter to KAMP Ambulance.
KAMP Ambulance has been covering Mountaineer Ambulance’s runs since October. On Feb. 4 it was announced Mountaineer was closing its doors for good. It is the second Preston County ambulance squad to do so; Valley Ambulance was the first.
