KINGWOOD – COVID-19 vaccination clinics will resume next week in Preston County, Health Department Administrator V.J. Davis told the county commission Tuesday.
Some residents have complained that the regional vaccination clinics set up by the state required unnecessary travel by a vulnerable segment of the population. This week will be the last regional clinic, Davis said.
“Starting next week, we are being told that we will start getting a steady flow each week of vaccine coming in. What we’re being told right now is the vaccine we will be getting will be strictly for 65 and older,” Davis said.
Preston has been told it will get 220 doses next week. The vaccinations will be by appointment only. If you are to receive a vaccine, you will be contacted and an appointment time set to come for the shot.
“We are currently looking for volunteers. We’re going to be doing this on a weekly basis for a long time, so we’re going to be reaching out to other doctors’ offices, places where we can maybe get nurses or people to come help us,” Davis said.
The health department will use the state’s new Everbridge registration system for people to get on the waiting list for vaccine. The county has more than 600 people on its waiting list and will be sharing that with the state to add to the list for Preston County.
Davis recommends people register with the state system. Anyone can register, regardless of age, and they will be notified when vaccines are available to them.
“We’re optimistic it’s going to work really well,” Davis said. “The state is calling it a steady state of vaccine flow. We’re hoping that number goes up a little bit. Obviously at 220 a week, it’ll take a long time to vaccinate people in Preston County.”

Commissioners also:
- agreed to an addendum to the county’s contract with IT Mindshare to use the company’s services for up to 32 hours per month, at $100 per hour, Feb. 1 through June 30.
- reappointed Art Mouser to the Preston County Farmland Protection Board and reappointed Marvin Wotring to another six-year term on the Preston County Sewer Public Service District.
- approved the county clerk hiring Sabrina Golden to fill a vacancy created by a retirement. She will begin Feb. 8 and be paid $12.50 per hour.
- moved Billie Gower from full-time salaried to a full-time hourly position, at no change in pay.
