Phillip Goff

Phillip Paul “Phil” Goff, 71, of Rowlesburg, passed away on Jan. 19, 2021, at the VA Hospital, HJ Heinz Campus, Pittsburgh.

He was born in Rowlesburg on Nov. 28, 1949, the son of Loran and Maxine (Goff) Darlington.

He served his country honorably and nobly during the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals, including National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam-Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and was award Bronze Star. After serving his country, Phil returned to the states where he worked as a brakeman for the B&O Railroad, town police officer for Rowlesburg, he was the owner/operator of Cheat Aqua gas station and convenience store and in his later years was self-employed as a blaster, welder and lodge pole furniture maker. Phil enjoyed traveling, riding his Harley, fishing, building furniture and spending time with his family.

Phil is survived by his son, Chaz Harvey (Crystal), of Sarasota, Fla.; siblings, Pamela Whetsell (Richard), of Tunnelton, Barbara Stinson (Gordon), of Fayetteville, N.C., Brenda Howard (Monte), of Kingwood, Jim Darlington (Barb), of Rowlesburg, Neil Darlington (PL), of Rowlesburg, Dale Darlington, of Kingwood, Betty Grimm (Joe), of Rowlesburg, and Charlie Darlington (Wendy Walsh), of Rowlesburg; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Danny Darlington and Terry Wotring; and sister, Patricia Darlington.

Private graveside service will be held at West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton.

A celebration of life will be held on July 3, 2021. More details will be provided by the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cannon Hill VFW Post 3008 in Rowlesburg.
