Herman Robison

Herman R. “Sonny” Robison, 92, of Monroeville, Pa. and formerly of Morgantown, passed away peacefully Dec. 2, 2020, at Redstone Highlands Senior Living Community, Irwin, Pa. Born in Morgantown, he was the youngest of three children to Mary and Herman Robison Sr.

Sonny was a graduate of Morgantown High School where he played in the Red and Blue marching band and attended West Virginia University. He served his country honorably as a fighter pilot in both the U.S. Air Force and Marines. As a life-time member of the Bricklayers Union, he began his career working alongside his father laying brick for area coke ovens for the steel industry in support of our country’s war efforts. He developed technical and academic skills that would lead him to a management role of vice president of commercial construction with local building contractor, Baker & Coombs. While there, he was instrumental in the construction of hospitals, area churches, retail complexes and some of the most iconic structures found today on the WVU campus, including the Medical Center and Creative Arts Center.

Sonny lived a full and rich life. He will be well remembered in the Morgantown area for his dedication to fitness and active sports. An avid runner and biking enthusiast, he participated in several marathons and bicycle events. Well into his sixties, he developed a passion for motorcycles, becoming a certified instructor for the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Robison, of Monroeville, Pa., and Doris Robison, of Morgantown. He is survived by his children, Sandy Stephens (Ron), Brad Robison (Kathy) and Charles Robison (Susan), all of Morgantown, Debbie Robison (Jad), of Bruceton Mills, and Lou Ann Miller (Rick), of Grandville, Mich; and two stepsons, Rob Trow, of Los Angeles, and Eric Trow (Amy), of Irwin Pa. In addition, he is the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date.
