Carl Sullivan

Carl Franklin “Frank” Sullivan Sr., 87, of Morgantown, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, with family by his side. Carl was born on Dec. 1, 1933 the son of the late Frank and Louise (Clendenin) Sullivan.

Frank was born and raised in Ansted. He was an athlete in football, basketball and track. After high school, he left home and joined the U.S. Army, serving overseas and doing duty as a drill sergeant at Fort Knox, Ky. He and his wife, Betty, enjoyed square dancing and vacationing in the Caribbean and attending WVU home and away games.

He and his wife owned and operated Deal & Sullivan Texaco in Morgantown, Sullivan’s Gas & Diesel in Summersville, Tyler Mountain Water in
11 counties and U Save Auto Rentals in Morgantown and Summersville. He was a charter member of Joseph W. Summers #173 Masonic Lodge.

Frank was a loving husband and father, known for his generosity and kindness to all. He will be missed dearly by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. His presence was a blessing.

Frank is survived by his children, Mark A. Sullivan and wife, Toy, David S. Sullivan and wife Debra, Carl F. Sullivan Jr. and companion Alissa A. Macchia, all of Morgantown, and Debra L. Johnson and husband Joshua, of Tunnelton; grandchildren, Ryan Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, of Morgantown, Melissa Mason and husband, Tim, of Kingwood, and Dustin Ellison, of Morgantown, Cameron Vance and wife, Kelly, of Tallahassee, Fla., Katie Oliver and husband John, of Tallahassee, Fla., Kristen Richards, of Madison, Miss., and Robert Sanders, of Nashville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Memphis Mason, Declan Vance, Griffin and Lila Richards and Camille Oliver; brother, Dr. John Sullivan, of Jacksonville, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Crist, of Greenville, Tenn., Barbara Miller, of Paris, Ky., and Bernice Brackens, of Lewisburg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Betty Deal Sullivan; sister-in-law, Nancy Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Charles Crist, Morris Miller and Arch Brackens; and nephew, Brad Miller.

In accordance with his wishes, Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements and private inurnment will take place at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens at a later time.
