Stella J. Cook, 100, of Star City, passed away Thursday Dec. 31, 2020, at Horizon Personal Care Home in Fairchance, Pa. Stella was born
Oct. 21, 1920, in Junior, a daughter of the late William Hayward Edmond and Addie Belle Coberly Edmond, who preceded her in death.
Stella was married for 73 years to her husband, Ralph Willard Cook, who also preceded her death in December 2012.
Stella was a member of Star City/Suncrest United Methodist Church and a member of the Suncrest Quilters. She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, canning, crafting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was always willing to share and pass on traditions and recipes. Her love and compassion for her family can never be replaced.
Stella was a graduate of Morgantown High School. Having played basketball in high school, she was an avid sports fan, in her younger years she enjoyed watching boxing, baseball and wrestling, she especially enjoyed watching basketball and football and cheering on the Mountaineers, Morgantown High School girls basketball team and Pittsburgh Steelers. When they would winter in Florida, she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and bike riding.
Stella is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean Goodwin and husband Larry, of Morgantown; and grandchildren, Douglas A. and wife Beth Porter Goodwin, of Morgantown, Mark A. and wife Keina Kipp-Goodwin, of Frederick, Md., Jeffrey A. and wife Kristi Channel Goodwin, of Morgantown. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Christian E. Goodwin, of Greenville, N.C., Deatria L. Gaddy-Goodwin, of Frederick, Md., Tobias L., Hunter A. and Levi C. Goodwin, all of Morgantown. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Aleah, Javan and Isaiah Kipp, of Frederick, Md. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Monsel, Willard, Randal and Herald Edmond. She was the last surviving member of her family.
The family would like to thank all those who showed compassion and kindness to Stella over the last 8 years including Doris White, Serria Burnette, and her niece, Susie Cook, and the staffs of Point Marion Personal Care and Horizon Personal Care.
The family requests that flowers be omitted. Instead, if you are able, please consider donating a pint of blood to help those with immune deficiencies who receive life saving IVIG infusion treatments or by making a donation to a charity of your choice or showing kindness to someone.
Due to the COVID pandemic, there will not be a viewing. Services will be private for the immediate family with Pastor Dave McElroy officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held in the spring for extended family and friends.
Stella’s daily quote was, “It doesn’t pay to live this long.”
