John Fulton Leonian, 88, of Morgantown, passed away Friday evening, Dec. 18, 2020 at Stonerise, of Morgantown (formerly Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center).
He was born Jan. 18, 1932, in Morgantown, a son of the late Leon and Nell Lanham Leonian.
Survivors include two sons, John Michael Leonian, and Joseph Robert Leonian and his wife Ora, all of Morgantown; four grandchildren, Gypsy and spouse Michael, Angel, Orin and spouse Christina and Crystal; eight great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Samantha, Sierra, Aaron, Fayth, Ian, Devyn and Effiemae; a brother, Armen Leonian; and several nieces and nephews including C.J., Jeremiah and Trisha Ghuste, who always thought of him more as a grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Audra E. Cabell Leonian on June 11, 2017; and a brother, Phillip Leonian.
John was a graduate of Morgantown High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked for the former Mon Health Medical Center as an LPN for several years. His calming demeanor and presence made him a favorite of his patients and people who were around him. His family and friends will remember him as a sweet and kind man with a wonderful sense of humor.
Friends may join the family to honor John’s life and legacy at Smith Funeral & Cremation Care, 108 Holland Ave., Westover/Morgantown from
6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29 until the time of the funeral service at 8 p.m., officiated by J.B. Blankenship — Coombs. Following the service, John will be cremated and laid to rest with his wife at East Oak Grove Cemetery.
Guests must wear face coverings, practice social distancing and limit your visit with the family to 15 minutes or less.
