The Woods at the Summit has won the title of Most Charitable Neighborhood, according to the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties’ recent competition.

The Most Charitable Neighborhood competition was part of United Way’s 2021 Campaign, and ran Nov. 1-30, with communities vying for the title of Most Charitable Neighborhood by donating to the United Way.

The Woods at the Summit residents donated more than $500, earning them the title. The Cheat Lake area development will receive a special prize delivered to their houses, as well as a feature magazine story and an ad in The Dominion Post.

The goal of the competition was to ask community members who don’t already participate in workplace campaigns and/or personal pledges to consider giving to United Way this year, as well as to help those new donors learn more about the organization.

While pledging, people were given the option to represent their neighborhood in a drop-down menu. The United Way plans to bring back the competition next year.

Donations from the event go toward the United Way’s 2021 Campaign. Money collected during the campaign helps fund 43 programs at 24 organizations across Mon and Preston counties, as well as internal United Way programs, such as Helpful Harvest, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, the Holiday Toy and Food Distribution, and the WV 211 line. The theme for this year’s campaign is Now More Than Ever, showing the importance of funding this year because of the hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The United Way campaign is still underway, as the organization is closing in on its $1,142,000 goal. Donations are still needed and can be made at united waympc.org/give or by texting NOW2021 to 41444.
