Carroll Ammons

Carroll “Cat” Lee Ammons, 83, of Blacksville, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at his residence.

He was born July 27, 1937, a son of the late A.Z. “Jeff” Ammons and Linnie McCord Ammons, of Pentress.

Mr. Ammons served as the Mayor of Blacksville in the 1980s, was past president of the Blacksville Ambulance Service, past member and past president of the Clay Battelle Health Services Association and a past member of the Clay Battelle Public Service District. He was a 50-year member of the Littleton Lodge #131, AF & AM. He was retired from Consolidated Coal Company in 1995 after many years of serving as a salary employee.

Surviving are his loving wife, JoAnn Ammons, to whom he had been married for 39 years; a son, Jeffrey David Ammons, his wife Tonya and a granddaughter, Aurora Ammons, of Morgantown; two sisters, Peg Tennant, of Daybrook, and Lorene Priest, of Gainesville, Va.; two stepsons, Jim Osborne, of Morgantown, and Pete (Lisa) Osborne, and step-grandson, Wyatt Osborne, of Bruceton Mills; the best neighbor in the world, Kate Fickey; and several nieces and nephews and great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donzil Ammons, Ronald Ammons and Claire Ammons; and three sisters, Isabelle Walls, Marilyn Long and Glenda Long.

A graveside service will be held at the Olive Cemetery at Pentress at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Rose Saunders officiating. The Littleton Lodge #131 will perform masonic graveside rites. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery.

The Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville is in charge of arrangements.
