Trinity Christian falls to Wahama, 28-21

After a three-game run in the middle of its shortened season, Trinity Christian fell to Wahama High School, 28-21.

Wahama got the ball first and scored on their opening possession with a 68-yard drive, all on the ground.  Trinity answered with a score of their own on their opening possession as Drew Boczek hit Levi Teets in stride as he outran the defense for a 29-yard touchdown reception.

Wahama scored on a 4-yard touchdown rush near the end of the first quarter and then again on the ground on a 9-yard run with a couple of minutes left in the first half.  Wahama led the Warriors (3-3) 22-7 at the half.

After missing a field goal on Trinity’s opening possession of the second half, Trinity narrowed the gap on Boczek’s 30-yard pass into the endzone to Teets.  Wahama answered with a score of their own before the third quarter ended.

Trinity scored again with two minutes left in the game to make it a one-score game.  This time it was Boczek hitting Calvin Blunt Jr. for a quick catch and run.  The score was set up by a long 41-yard pass from Boczek to James Gabbart.  The Warriors’ onside kick appeared to be recovered by Trinity, but the officials determined the ball had not traveled 10 yards.  Wahama ran out the clock to close out their 28-21 victory.

Albeit a loss, it was a career night for Warriors’ sophomore quarterback. Boczek totaled 313 yards and three scores on 20 of 32 performance. Trinity will host Tucker County on Thursday, priming the second-year team to secure its first winning season.
