Floretta Holmes

Floretta Deloris “Flo” Holmes, 88, of Blacksville, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, in the Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown.

She was born Jan. 12, 1932, at Browns Chapel near Morgantown, a daughter of the late Herman “Poodle” Watkins and Rosa McCrobie Watkins.
Mrs. Holmes was a retired janitor at Clay-Battelle High School, having retired in 1991.

Flo was a member of the Clay District Fair Association, was a Moose Lodge cook and loved catering. No one ever left her home hungry because she always made sure of that. She also had worked as a caregiver for the elderly. She was also a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are 11 children, Sylvia McMillen, of Morgantown, Joyce Loughry, of Fairmont, Donna (Gary) Eddy, of Wadestown, Terry (Jim) Murray, of Morgantown, Joe Holmes, of Wadestown, Bradley (Penny) Holmes, of Core, Mike “Goob” Holmes, of Blacksville, Mitch (Lena) Holmes, of Blacksville, Lisa Barr and Wally Jackson, of Carmichaels, Pa., Tonda (Mark) Hriblan, of Independence, and Sam (Rachel) Holmes, of Fairview; one sister, Helen Haskiel, of Elyria, Ohio; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Holmes; one son, Douglas Holmes; six sisters and one brother; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home, 5894 Mason-Dixon Highway, Blacksville, WV from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Freddie Eddy II officiating. Interment will follow in the Olive Cemetery at Pentress.

Mrs. Holmes did not like fresh flowers. If you want to send something to the funeral home please consider something that the family members can take home like a wind chime, blanket or throw, silk arrangement or something else that is appropriate.
