CHARLES TOWN — The Preston High defense struggled to contain the triple-option attack of Washington on Friday night, on the way to a 35-8 road loss.
The Knights (1-6) could not stop Patriots’ quarterback Frankie Amore, who scored on touchdown runs of 70 and 29 yards, and also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jimmy Williams. WHS running back Tommy Wogan also scored on a 56-yard run.
Amore finished the game with 170 yards total on the ground.
Washington (4-3) led 35-0 late in the game before Preston’s Jaxson Lewis returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown, the Knights’ lone score of the night. Overall, PHS’s offense continued the struggles it’s had all season.
Preston will travel a short way to Morgantown next week, taking on University at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23.
