Gritstone Climbing adds hours for those at risk for COVID

Newsroom@DominionPost.com

On Monday, Gritstone Climbing and Fitness, LLC, in Sabraton, announced new hours specifically for at-risk users.

From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Mondays and 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Fridays, the gym will be designated for use by sensitive clientele who may be at higher risk of COVID-19.

During these hours, only 30 people will be allowed to use  the space.

According to Gritstone, the hours were chosen “to be after our janitorial service has finished cleaning the entire gym, making it the perfect time to climb with safety in mind.”

As always, Gritstone notes, masks must be worn the entire time. Frequent hand-washing and proper social distancing will also be monitored by staff.

Gritstone offers a number of classes and workshops for adults and youth, including Intro to Climbing.

Learn to top rope with an experienced staff member. According to the Gritstone website, by the end of the class,  participants will be prepared to take a top rope test on a subsequent visit. During the 90-minutes class, they cover knot-tying, belay technique, climbing commands and basic climbing movement.

Sunday afternoons are set aside for family climbing. From 2-3:45 p.m., families can climb together.

Each week  includes a warm up, time for climbing and games with  family members, and break-out groups where kids and adults  climb separately, giving everyone a chance to work on age-specific skills and make new friends.

These Sunday sessions cost $20 per person for non-members and $15 per person for members and includes rental gear and day pass to gym.

For the ladies who want the gym to themselves, there is Wednesday on the Rocks, a weekly ladies’ night.

Every Wednesday from 5:30-8 p.m. includes  yoga classes and  the fitness area,  for the entire session or just part of it. Two female coaches  offer advice and encourage fun.

Cost (in addition to a day pass or membership): $5 for members and $7 for non-members.

Gritstone Climbing and Fitness is at 1901 Eljadid St., in Sabraton, across from the Dellslow Post Office.
