Sharon Sue (Austin) Cress, 71, of Masontown, W.Va., was taken home by her Lord on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Morgantown, on Nov. 24, 1948, a daughter of the late Lloyd Austin and Dorothy Ione (Huggins) Austin.
Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many that thought of her as their mom. She was a homemaker who loved cooking, gardening, singing, dancing, traveling, watching westerns, sitting on her front porch and spending time with her friends and family, whom she loved dearly. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post #1589 for many years.
Sharon is survived by her son, Jason Cress III and wife Carrie, of Reedsville; a daughter, April Cress, of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Katelynn and Garrett Strahin; two sisters, her twin, Karen Ayersman and Milton, of Fairmont, and Dottie Christopher and husband Paul, of Morgantown; a brother, Edward Austin, of Concord, N.C.; a sister-i-law Joyce Austin, of Morgantown; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and her faithful companion, Lucky.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jason Cress Jr., and a brother, James “Butchy” Austin
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, W.Va. from 2-4 p.m. 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7. Funeral services will be held at the Field Funeral Home at 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, with Chaplain Wendy Browne officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Masontown, W.Va.
Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will be taken, the social distancing 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests, whose health allows, are to wear a mask. For the safety of everyone, we politely ask that visitors do not linger at the funeral home after seeing the Cress family.
