Elizabeth Mae Berkshire Taylor-Hovatter, 78, of Independence, passed away Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at the Rosewood Health Care Center in Morgantown.
Elizabeth was born in Morgantown on April 21, 1942, a daughter of the late Robert Claude Berkshire and Helen Delinda (Brewer) Berkshire.
Throughout her life she had worked at various places, including the A&P, Thorofare grocery stores and Morgantown Nursing Care as an activities director. At one time she operated her own lawn care business and sold produce to Austin’s Grocery. She loved to work in her garden and enjoyed her flowers.
She is survived by one son, Willard Ray Taylor Jr., of Morgantown; one daughter, Lisa Carol Gray and husband Michael, of Morgantown; two sisters-in-law, Mary Berkshire, of Baltimore, and Dalice Berkshire, of Morgantown; three stepchildren, William Charles Hovatter and wife Sarah, Jeffery Hovatter and Marcia “Elaine” Kelley and husband Warren; grandson, Andrew Gray and girlfriend Rebecca Sausen; several step-grandchildren and great-step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and a loving friend, Vivian McNemar.
She is preceded in death by her husband Hurshel Hasko Hovatter in 1998; two brothers, Louis Berkshire and Robert Berkshire Jr.; one sister, Theresa Gemas; one brother-in-law, Bob Gemas; four stepdaughters, Mary Rose “Snooks” Swain, Martha “Liz” Sifers, Melinda Jo Howsare and Margaret Ann Ervin and ex-husband, Willard Ray Taylor.
Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, W.Va. from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 30 and from 10 a.m. Thursday Oct. 1, until the 11 a.m. service time with the Rev. Andy Fominko officiating.
To honor her wishes she will then be cremated.
The family would like to thank the Rosewood Health Care Center for being her family for the past four years and for the wonderful care they provided her.
Due to COVID-19, safety precautions will be taken, the social distancing 6-foot rule will be honored and all guests, whose health allows, are to wear a mask.
