MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The West Virginia women’s soccer team was slotted No. 4 in the season’s first edition of the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s National Poll on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers (2-0, 2-0 Big 12) sit inside the top five of a national poll for the first time since 2017. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, only teams competing in the fall were considered for the poll. The number of teams appearing in each ranking is also lower due to the number of teams competing. The women’s poll features a top 15 this season.
North Carolina (2-0) tops the poll, while Florida State (2-0) and Clemson (3-0) rank second and third, respectively. After WVU, Texas A&M (1-0) rounds out the top five.
West Virginia is one of four Big 12 schools ranked in the national poll this week, along with No. 6 Oklahoma State (2-0), No. 9 Kansas (1-0) and No. 14 TCU (1-0-1).
The Mountaineers return to action when they travel to Stillwater, Okla., on Friday for a top-10 matchup against Oklahoma State. Kickoff at Neal Patterson Stadium is set for 8 p.m.
