Carrie Coleman was severely injured in a motorcycle crash that killed her husband, Richard, on Hartman Run Road on Aug. 19.
Her recovery will take some time and a longtime friend hopes to help by raising money through two raffles to help support the family.
Mandi Hall DeSantis said when the crash first happened, she collected some donations, bought groceries and took them to the family.
Coleman has five kids ages 2-24, DeSantis said.
That grocery trip turned into a fundraiser on Facebook, which raised $3,200 that will be used for groceries and supplies the family needs that DeSantis will continue to purchase as needed, she said.
DeSantis is also organizing two raffles for Coleman, who has a “long road ahead of her.”
The first raffle will be for $1,000 cash. The second will be for enough stuff that “you win and your entire Christmas list is taken care of,” DeSantis said.
That stuff is being donated by area businesses and includes items such as cutting boards, free bowling, jewelry, food gift cards, baskets from beauty shops and more.
Item donations for the raffle are being accepted until Tuesday.
Tickets will be sold until Black Friday — Nov. 27 — to give plenty of time for funds to be raised because of social distancing, DeSantis said. Tickets can be purchased through Cashapp or Venmo and DeSantis will send pictures of the tickets to the purchaser.
