Cassandra Aiken

Cassandra Varner Aiken passed peacefully on Aug. 23, 2020, surrounded by her children. She was so deeply loved by all who knew her; beautiful inside and out.
Cassandra was born in Tulsa, Okla., on April 26, 1961. A mother extraordinaire, passionate learner, world traveler, published author, beloved teacher, wife and friend to all who knew her, Cassandra worked as a public school teacher early in her career before homeschooling each of her four children. Cassandra then returned to school herself, earning a masters degree in TESOL. Cassandra spent the last 12 years teaching and mentoring students for whom English was a second language in both Wood and Doddridge County Schools.

Cassandra is survived by her husband, Tim Aiken, of Sistersville; her four children, Rachel (and Sam) Propst, of Philippi, Michaelyn (and Kenton) Schrock, of Morgantown, Matthew Kennedy of Nashville, Tenn., Amy Kennedy, of Morgantown; her one granddaughter, Arden Propst; her cherished siblings, David (and Kim) Varner and Abigail (and Rusty) Nida; many beloved nieces and nephews; and her stepchildren, Allison Carse, of Weirton, and Matt Carse, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii.
Cassandra was preceded in death by her mother, Corrine Prenett Varner, and father, James Bayard Varner.

There will be a private celebration of life to be determined by family at a later date. There will not be a visitation.
