John Cutlip

John Emory “Link” Cutlip, 77, of Brookhaven, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Baltimore, on Sept. 25, 1942. He was married March 10, 1962, to wife, Patricia, and they have been married for 58 years.

He is the son of the late Baily L. Cutlip and Helen (Hoffman) Cutlip and stepmother, Edna Melvina (Nicholson) Cutlip. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald D. Cutlip.

John retired from Davis Lynch Glass Factory in Star City on June 1993 with 22 years of service. He held the position of blocker and was known for his excellent skill of working “crystal glass.”

John attended Sabraton Jr. High School and, in the 60s, he worked various construction jobs as laborer and machine operator before starting his final job at the glass factory. John was famously known by all for his 1987 Black Monte Carlo, which he would not be caught driving in the rain. John loved his family, all the holiday gatherings and good food. He especially became very fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they came to visit. He had lots of good memories of places they went and things they did together.

John is survived by his wife, Patricia Mae (Shahan) Cutlip, of Morgantown; a daughter, Teresa (Cutlip) Delaney, of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Garrett Thomas Delaney and wife, Jessie, of Independence, and Loren Ashley Delaney, of Morgantown; two great-grandsons, Camden James Leach and Eli Thomas Delaney; one sister, Lillian Jeanette Rosier and spouse, Leonard; as well as many nephews and nieces.

We would also like, at this time, to give special heartfelt thanks to the Amedysis nurses and staff who gave John excellent care over the last 10 months (especially Cindy and Danielle). Anything we needed, they provided with tender loving care.

In lieu of flowers, you can send donations in John’s memory to the “Lung Research” of your choice or to Nicholson Chapel, 1321 Summers School Road, Morgantown, WV 26508, for maintenance at the Nicholson Cemetery.

Hastings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A graveside committal service will be held at Nicholson Cemetery at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 19 with the Rev. Ed Williamson and Pastor Nathan Williamson officiating.
