Dale Rice

Dale Wayne Rice, 78, of Morgantown, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, at Monongalia Health System with his family by his side. He was born May 29, 1942, in Morgantown, a son of the late Samuel Franklin Rice and Hazel Virginia Hewitt Rice.

Dale worked for Knollman Construction from 1962-1963, he then served as a Washington D.C. police officer from December 1963-February 1965, a Morgantown police officer from March 1965-1993 and also with Fairmont State University from 1994-2011. Dale also enjoyed golfing, hunting and riding his motorcycle, but his favorite activity was spending time with his family and grandchildren. Dale and Mary built their home together while raising five children. A home filled with love and laughter; memories that will be forever cherished.

Dale is survived by his two daughters, Madonna Rice, of Washington, Pa., and Leigh Ann McCulty and her husband Matthew, of Laughlintown, Pa., one son, Scott Rice and his wife Paula, of Fairview; one daughter-in-law, Judy Rice, of Virginia, two brothers, Dave Rice, of California, and Ed Rice and his wife Becky, of Morgantown; grandchildren, Dale Thomas Rice II, Autumn Rice, Amira Maroulis, Lanigan McCulty, Arison McCulty and Mariana McCulty; sister-in-law, Josephine Livengood and her family; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Nevera Rice; two sons, Wayne Joseph Rice and Dale Thomas Rice; and brother-in-law, James Paul Livengood.

Friends may call at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Westover from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until the 11 a.m. funeral service with Bishop Bill Page officiating. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery. Masks will be required and social distancing during the visitation and services.
