Sheriff identifies produce stand crash victim

Update: The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department identified the woman killed as Pamela A. Ciuni, 61, of Morgantown.

MORGANTOWN — One person died and another suffered injuries in Monday’s single-vehicle accident at Duda’s Farm produce stand on Fairmont Road in Westover.

The deceased was a customer at the stand and one of two people struck by a 2016 Subaru Legacy driven by Jerrey Hoyt, 76, of Morgantown.

The vehicle hit the produce stand about 4 p.m., according to Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer.

The female customer was taken to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, where she died of her injures, Palmer said.

Her name is not being released at this time.

Palmer said the investigation into the crash is on-going.

“It’s absolutely horrible,” Mark Duda, president and co-owner of Duda’s Farm said.

He said there was a lot of structural damage to the tent and stands, but his brother, Andrew, repaired everything on Tuesday and the damage was nothing compared to the loss suffered by the family of the woman killed.

“I just want to give my deepest condolences,” he said. “We are all thinking of and praying for her family.”

The injured person is Duda’s cousin and was working at the stand when the accident occurred.

Duda said his cousin was experiencing neck and back pain and waiting to see a doctor Tuesday afternoon.

Another customer had asked the salesman a question just a second before the crash, causing him to turn around, according to Duda.

“He said he felt the car go by,” Duda said.

The produce stand will reopen on Wednesday.
