Willa Jane Varner, 89, of Pentress, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Jane was born in Pentress on July 10, 1931, to the late Forest Carl Harker and Lora Johnson Harker.
Jane dedicated her life to her family, working to provide for their needs at home and later worked for Monongalia County Schools as a cook at Blacksville Elementary School.
Above all, Jane had an unwavering faith in the Lord. She had the gift of prayer, spending many hours in fellowship with her Savior, and interceding for her loved ones through many of life’s trials. She was a life-long member of the Olive United Methodist Church and supported many endeavors of the church.
Those Jane leaves behind to cherish her memory, include her children, Nancy Jane Eddy, of Daybrook, Lora Dale Owens (Doug), of Core, with whom she made her home, Amy Jean Jones (Allen), of Core, Leanna Jo Whetzel (Dave), of Pentress, Carol Lynn Ponceroff (Jim), of Cassville, Harold F. “Butch” Varner II (Lisa), of Morgantown, and Carl Scott Varner (Pam), of Blacksville; grandchildren, Freddie Eddy II (Sally), Brian Eddy (Missy), Jason Eddy (Daphne), David Spears (Crystal), Christopher Spears (Liberty), Holly Simpson (Doug), Heath Owens (Stephanie), Joshua Owens, Lacy Morise (Matt), Amber Conway (Joe), Carla Swanson (Rick), Jason Whetzel (Erica), J.W. Haught III, Tiffany Haught, Ashley Watson (Sean), Austin Ponceroff (Ashley), Harold “Trey” Varner III and Tressa Varner, Dirk Hollabaugh (Sungmoon), Keylea Moore (Quintin), Urijah Bliss (Kennedy) and Camden Varner; great-grandchildren: Robbie Eddy (Leslie), Danielle Wilson (Alex), Leah Eddy, Chelsie Washington (Keenon), Charissa Eddy, Alisha Ankrom, Gracey Eddy, Rezin (Alexanjreah) Spears, Danny, Destiny, Christian, and Braylee Spears, Allison King, Courtney Latocha (Kyle), Dylan and Logan Simpson, Tyler, Emily and Zachary Owens, Hunter Wilson, Lily Owens, Olivia, Owen and Ella Kate Morise, Christopher (Jeannine), Kellen, Tallen, Zaden and Makenna Conway, Ricky, Charlie, C.J., and Rella Swanson, Tyler Whetzel, Mollie, Haley, and Faithlyn Haught, Hayden and Laney Hamon, Maddie, Drew, Sam, Sadie, Jacobi Watson, Braden, Dominick, Brooklynn and Caleb Ponceroff, Landon and Kason Bliss and Carter and Quillin Moore; and great-great grandchildren, Brianna, Braxton, Callista, Nevaeh, Wesley, Reese, Kambree, Keenon, Hattie Ruth, Saylee, Ryan and Olivia.
Also surviving is Jane’s sister, Frances Efamy “Amy” Seaman, of Core; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold F. Varner, whom she married on Nov. 22, 1947; a grandson, Wayne “Rocky” Whetzel; her brother, Darrell Eugene “Gene” Harker; two infant brothers, Forest Carl Jr. and Calvin Clyde Harker; a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Seaman; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Harker.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their care and support in Jane and her family’s time of need, but most of all to her caregivers, Joey and Christine, for all of their assistance and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Jane’s memory to the Olive United Methodist Church, c/o Shelley Henkins at P.O. Box 146 Pentress, WV 26544.
Visitation was held at Olive United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 25. A private service will be held for Jane’s family at the Olive United Methodist Church with Pastor John Brosky officiating. Following the service, Jane will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Harold Varner. McCulla Funeral Home has handled the arrangements.
