WVU announces new Panda Express

West Virginia University students this fall will have a couple of new dining options when the  semester starts next month.

The university announced Panda Express, a restaurant chain specializing in American Chinese food, will  replace the Burgershop in the Mountainlair. An opening date will be announced later.

Other restaurants in the Mountainlair include Chick-fil-A, Blue Tomato, Tres Habaneros, Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe, and Which Wich Superior Sandwiches.

WVU Dining Services, meanwhile, also said Market @ UPlace will replace the empty storefront formerly occupied by Sheetz in Sunnyside. In September, Sheetz, which is opening a new store on Mileground Road, said in September it was not renewing its lease at University Place.

The 15,000-square-foot store, which had been open since 2015, sold groceries and included a café, attached to a 950-bed University Place apartment complex.

Market @ UPlace will feature a full-service Starbucks, grab-and-go options, as well as an extensive grocery store whose offerings will include frozen foods, meats and produce, and even paper towels, the university said in a press release.

The university said Market @ UPlace will be open when the fall semester starts Aug. 19.  Both Market @ U Place and Panda Express will be compliant with COVID-19 physical distancing and safety measures.
