Ralph Harry McDonald, 90, of Morgantown, passed away Monday afternoon, July 13, 2020, at his home following a long illness.
Born May 15, 1930, in Morgantown, Ralph was a son of the late Elmer and Lucy (Murray) McDonald.
For 68 wonderful years, he was married to Velma (Dalton) McDonald, who survives him at home. Together, they were blessed with three children, Michael (Lavonna) McDonald, Gerald (Pam) McDonald (Pam was waiting for him in heaven) and Alvin (Tammy) McDonald ; grandchildren, Erin (Doug) Himes, Kristi (Jon) Shaffer, Brady McDonald, Wesley (Lisa) Corbin and their three sons, Wyatt, Corbin and Ashley (Adrian) Witte; his great-grandchildren Ashlyn, Alex and Aiden Himes and Emily and Tyler Shaffer; his siblings, Carolyn Dalton, Sylvia Young, Joyce Austin and Juanita (Hubert) Hart; his sisters-in-law, Patty (Ronald) Hilling and Ruby Kessler; and an aunt, Georgia Hilling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Cecil, Francis, Loretta and Lester McDonald, and Clara Murray, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sadie and Solomon Dalton.
Ralph was a dedicated and faithful member of Burns Chapel United Methodist Church and his favorite passage from the Bible was John, Chapter 14. He also enjoyed coon hunting.
Friends may join Ralph’s family to honor his life and legacy at Nicholson Chapel Church, Summers School Road, Morgantown from 1-8 p.m. Friday, July 17 with his family present between the hours of 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and again from 9 a.m. Saturday, July 18 until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Donna Dalton will officiate and be assisted by Pastor Lynda Masters. Following the funeral service, Ralph will be laid to rest at Nicholson Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ralph’s memory may be made to either Burns Chapel United Methodist Church, or to Nicholson Chapel Church.
Per Governor Jim Justice’s statewide mandate, those in attendance will be required to wear face masks or face shields and practice all recommended social distancing guidelines.
The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of Morgantown Hospice and to Chaplain Craig Falkenstine, as well as Carol, Deb, Rick and Naomi who regularly called and visited with him.
