On June 22, VMCCVB officially launched its “Mountaineer Country Commitment to Safety Program,” where tourism partners in the region can pledge to take precautionary measures when reopening during COVID-19 for the safety of visitors and employees.
As West Virginia reopens in phases according to Gov. Jim Justice’s “West Virginia Strong- The Comeback,” Mountaineer Country businesses are preparing to provide services with safety in mind for visitors and employees.
Throughout the country, destinations are developing similar safety commitment programs to make visitors feel comfortable as they begin patronizing these businesses as well as traveling again. VMCCVB saw this as an opportunity to continue to serve the community and its partners at this time by launching a similar program in the region.
In order for tourism-related businesses to make the safety commitment, they must go to VisitMountaineerCountry.com/Safety-Commitment and review the official Commitment guidelines. These guidelines are subject to change as Justice’s office releases more COVID-19 guidance.
In order to complete the commitment process, the business complete the “Make the Pledge” steps and submit the “Make a Commitment” form on the VMCCVB website. They will then be emailed an official commitment seal, along with instructions for adding it to their websites with a link to the list of official pledges.
VMCCVB staff will also provide the businesses that make the commitment with a commitment seal decal that they must display for guests to view. The commitment is a free and voluntary certification program administered by VMCCVB. Any business in Mountaineer Country is eligible for the program.

Celebration of America in Mountaineer Country
On Saturday, Mylan Park and Triple S Harley-Davidson will host “Celebration of America,” where the community may enjoy a baseball game, a live music concert, a movie and fireworks, all free to the public.
At 1 p.m. at Mylan Park, guests may enjoy a baseball game between Wheeling Park 1 and Morgantown 2. Then, from 7:30-9:30 p.m., guests may choose to either view a family friendly movie, “Doolittle,” on the big screen within the Monongalia County Extension Service and 4-H Center Pavilion or a Davisson Brothers performance live streamed on the Track and Field Complex’s video board. If guests would like to enjoy the Davisson Brothers’ outdoor concert in person, they may visit Triple S from 7:39-9:30 p.m. to watch them on stage.
Attendees will be able to purchase concessions and are also allowed to bring outside food and beverages to Mylan Park for the event, with additional refreshments available for purchase at Triple S. They may bring their own chairs and blankets to both locations. Chairs must have protective coverings as to not damage surfaces. No coolers or pop-up tents are permitted. Restrooms will be open throughout Mylan Park and at Triple S, although the store will be closed during the concert.
To complete the patriotic evening, a fireworks show will take place at 9:45 p.m. on Anker Fields at Mylan Park.
Guests may view the fireworks from their seating areas or parking spaces at Mylan Park and Triple S. The concert and fireworks show will be live streamed by WKKW at WKKWFM.com, so that the community may participate in the event as they remain at home.
For the safety of attendees, Mylan Park and Triple S ask groups and families congregating together contain no more than 10 people and that they maintain a distance of six feet from other groups. Self-responsibility and personal protective equipment, such as masks and sanitizing solution, are highly encouraged.
Both event locations will host stations for Pantry Plus More. Only monetary donations will be accepted.
