Maxine Moore Kendall, 92, departed this life Sunday, June 21. She will forever be remembered as a gentle, loving soul.
She was born on June 27, 1928, to Estelle Gross Moore and George W. Moore, of Philippi.
She graduated from Philippi High School and married Gerald J. Kendall, of Morgantown, in September of 1946.
Besides being a homemaker, she had several jobs, eventually retiring as assistant director of the Morgantown Senior Center.
She enjoyed the many travels she experienced with them. Maxine was an avid reader and talented seamstress. She loved all children and her signature butterflies.
She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and David Dorsey, with whom she made her home in Morgantown. Known as beloved. “Grammy” to her grandchildren and their friends, she is also survived by grandson, Peter K. Christoff, of Houston, and Nicole E. Christoff, of Portland, Ore. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Seamus and Miles Christoff, of Houston, and Elliana Skourtes, of Portland, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Lora Prisock, of Greensboro, N.C., and Laura Morgan, of Stuart, Fla.
She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Hazel Freeman, of Philippi, Evelyn Cottrill, of Morgantown, Mildred Allen of Belington, and Virginia Stansbury, of Akron, Ohio.
Thank you to all those who, in the selfless tradition of Maxine, sent birthday wishes. They were much appreciated.
Arrangements are being handled by Hastings Funeral Home. There will be no public service at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
