Preston County Farm Crawl

The Second Annual Preston County Farm Crawl, set for July 10-12, celebrates Mountaineer Country’s agritourism attractions.

The event will begin July 10 with a farm-to-table Bison Roast at Riffle Farms, which will allow guests to witness a bull being field harvested, enjoy High Ground Brewing craft beers, and eat a delicious bison meal prepared by the Hill and Hollow owner and chef, Marion Ohlinger. Tickets cost $60 a piece for the dinner. Then, from July 11-12, guests may choose between two Farm Crawl routes, both a south and north Loop, which features 11 participating farms and is free and open to the public.

Maps and signage will be developed to assist guests with navigating these loops. During the stops at each location, participating farmers may showcase their farm by hosting an educational tour, fun interactive activity, and more.

The event was spearheaded by Riffle Farms owner Elizabeth Riffle in 2019. Between her efforts as well as assistance from fellow farmers, Preston County Farm Bureau, Preston County Chamber of Commerce, Preston County Economic Development Authority, and VMCCVB, this growing agritourism experience was able to be created. Together, all entities were able to come together again this year to assist in setting the Farm Crawl up for success as we all navigate the “new normal” due to COVID-19.

To put guests’ minds at ease during the ongoing pandemic, the Farm Crawl will assure that all farmers host tours in groups of 10 people or less, six feet of distance is kept between individuals and families, sanitizing stations are offered, and PPE is worn when appropriate. The event planning team assures guests that social distancing is the “ongoing normal” for those working on a farm, so this is their specialty.
