John Jones

John David Jones Sr., 92, of Kingwood, joined his beloved wife Dorothy in Heaven on Sunday, June 7, 2020.

John was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Ritchie County, where he was proud to be from. He was a son of the late David Banks and Rachie Emmie (Davis) Jones.

Mr. Jones was a graduate of WVU, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He began his career as a 4H Club Agent, after which he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Farmer’s Home Administration until his retirement. He also did post retirement work as a real estate appraiser. John was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Kingwood, for 48 years and had been a part of the UMC congregation all of his life. He was loved by many members of his family and his wife’s family and respected in his community. John enjoyed watching WVU football and sitting in his garage drinking coffee with his neighbors, Ron and Lou Wotring.

He is survived by one daughter and spouse, Gilda Arlene and John L. Russell, of Canonsburg, Pa.; four sons and spouses, John D. Jones Jr., of Parkersburg, Gordon D. Jones, of Huntington, Eric M. Jones, of Kingwood, and Phillip A. and Sonia Jones, of Huntington; one sister, Colen Townsend, of Parkersburg; three grandchildren and spouses, Shelley Russell-Ryan, Jonathan Russell and Anna and Adam Russell; one step-grandchild, Nathan Runyon and Kayla; six great-grandchildren, Christopher Russell, Brianna Russell, Alexander Russell, Connor Ryan, Dominic Ryan and Giuseppe Ryan; and step-great-grandson, Ryder Runyon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Arlene (Cottrill) Jones, and one sister, Annie Langford.

Family and friends may call at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price St. from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 and and from 10 a.m. Thursday, June 11 until the time of the funeral in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Pastor Paul G. Rebelo officiating. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family requests that social distancing be practiced and masks are optional.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made in John’s memory to the Wesley United Methodist Church, 107 West High Street, Kingwood, WV 26537.
