So far, the Monongalia County Clerk’s office has received more than 10,000 absentee ballots and expects as many as 4,000 more to be mailed in the next six days.
Wednesday marked the final day to request an absentee ballot ahead of Tuesday’s primary election.
During a report to the Monongalia County Commission, Blaney explained that early voting, which ends Saturday, “is going very slow.”
With one week of the 10-day early voting period in the books, 1,613 ballots have been cast. That’s far off the pace set in 2016, when just under 7,500 voters got to the polls early.
Early voting is available 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. through Saturday in the following locations:
- Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Green Bag Road, Unit D-20
- Mason Dixon Park, 79 Buckeye Road, Core
- Westover Community Building, 399 Crowl St., Westover
- WVU Alumni Center, 1 Alumni Drive, Morgantown
- Fort Pierpont, Suite No. 102, 200 Fort Pierpont Drive, Morgantown
Also on Wednesday, the commission voted to administratively clear 218 inactive estates from the county clerk’s books.
The closures are the result of a state law passed in 2019 through which estates can be closed administratively if there is no activity for three years after the administrator or executor takes the oath of appointment.
Any person connected to the estates is notified twice via first class mail prior to closure and a list of estates and notice of public hearing is published in this newspaper.
Lastly, the commission approved up to $840 for the Upper Monongahela River Association to defray the cost of liability insurance for its board members.
