Some county offices in Monongalia and Preston counties are being sought by only one person per party — or fewer.
In Preston, incumbent County Commissioner Don Smith, a Republican, has no opposition on either side of the ballot. Likewise, incumbent Assessor Connie Ervin, is also a Republican.
Prosecuting Attorney Melvin C. Snyder III has decided not to seek re-election. Only one person, fellow Republican Jay Shay, has filed for the office.
Preston will elect three magistrates. Division 1 incumbent P.L. Grimm and Division 2 incumbent Bo Ward are unopposed. Information on candidates for the Division 3 magistrate seat are elsewhere in the voter’s guide.
Magistrate races are nonpartisan.
For the office of Preston surveyor, only Democrat Ken Moran is running. And only Ed Utterback is running for conservation district supervisor, a nonpartisan position.
Mon County
In Mon, Democrat Jeff Arnett and Republican incumbent Ed Hawkins will square off in November but have no competition in the primary.
Mon Prosecuting Attorney Perri Jo DeChristopher, a Democrat, has no opponent on either side of the ticket. Likewise, Mon County Assessor Mark Musick, a Democrat, is the only person seeking that office.
Monongalia County has four magistrates on the ballot. In Division 3, incumbent Jim Nabors is unopposed.
Rick Abel is unopposed for the Mon conservation district supervisor seat.
