Campaign statement: I would appreciate the opportunity to continue serving the best school system in the state of West Virginia, and I will continue to focus the generous state and local resources where they belong — in the classroom.
Top priorities: Will continue to advocate for public educational opportunities for all students; will continue to improve school buildings for stellar learning environments, for present and future societal needs; will continue to foster an educational experience which accounts for cognitive, emotional and physical health; will continue to let staffers know their good work is appreciated.
Nancy Walker
Age: 63
Residence: Morgantown
Education: Completed medical imaging studies program through WVU.
Political and civic experience: Mon BOE incumbent (six terms); Board member past campaign chair of the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties; West Virginia School Boards Assocation member; past memberships on boards of Prevention Research Center and Performance Teaching Standards for the State of West Virginia.
Professional experience: Registered echocardiographer and vascular ultrasonographer, Mon Health Medical Center.
Campaign statement: To continue support to students, families and staff in the ongoing mission for academic excellence in changing environments.
Top priorities: The implementation of the 2020-30 Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan to keep Mon County as an educational leader, now and in the future.
Micah Weglinski
Age: 41
Residence: Cheat Lake
Education: Elementary education degree, with a master’s in library and information sciences.
Political and civic experience: Mon County Democratic Executive Committee; Pantry Plus More, vice-president.
Professional experience: Former elementary school teacher and school library media specialist; stay-at-home dad.
Campaign statement: I now serve as vice president of Pantry Plus More, a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood hunger in Monongalia County. This experience has shown me that access to resources and high-quality education are imperative for every child to reach their full potential.
Top priorities: Ensure funding for public education is protected and not diverted to private charter schools; explore ways to expand Extended Day Learning programs; expand vocational and technical education opportunities.
