Attempted murder suspect arrested in Fairmont

A Fairmont man wanted for attempted murder was arrested in his hometown early Monday morning.

Shawn Monte Pritchard, 34, was arrested about 1 a.m. near AFR Road, according to Acting Chief Deputy US Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia Terry Moore.

The Fairmont Police Department wanted Prtichard for attempted murder.

He is accused of shooting at two people on Hoult Road on May 3. Neither person was injured in the shooting but both of their vehicles were hit, according to Moore.

A warrant was issued for Pritchard’s arrest on May 4 and shortly after, detectives with the Fairmont Police Department requested assistance in finding him, Moore said.

While looking for Pritchard on Monday, investigators learned he was fishing at a pond near AFR Road, Moore said.

Deputy US Marshals, the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force and West Virginia State Police came up with a plan to arrest Pritchard but when they approached him he ran into nearby woods.

Moore said Pritchard was arrested after a short foot chase and search of the area and a firearm was recovered during the arrest.

Pritchard was arrested by the US Marshals Service Mountain State Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the West Virginia State Police Special Response Team.

Pritchard is being held in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $500,012 bond.
