Being stuck at home is a teaching opportunity

This COVID is bringing much change in many households, especially as far as the children are concerned. They have no school and are staying home. Many parents are staying home from work, too. It is a good time to grow closer and to reflect.

Time with your children can be a good or a bad thing — it is up to parents. We all need to set good examples for our children, better than we have been. They not only pay attention to what you say, but how you act and your appearance.

If you say you will do something, will you do it? If you promise consequences or reward, either way, always follow through.

Always use the language you want them to use. Always tell the truth. Speak with others with respect. Don’t talk down to anyone, even if they’re children or tiresome. If you act spoiled, they probably will, too. Never coax or manipulate to get your way.

Don’t let anything, phone, games, social media etc., become a substitute for life. Show your good work ethic and hope they will do the same. Don’t get mad at them for expecting you to do everything when that is usually what you do. They aren’t your slave and you aren’t theirs.

Teach them to be an independent, good human being. Be the example by being a lady/gentleman. Their future husband/wife will thank you. That benefits not only them, but everyone they come in contact with throughout their lives.

Always be fair. Think about all of these things and others. Your children are watching you. Help make them into people you can be proud of. Help them to become better than you. Be their role model. Turn this “lockdown” into a good experience and a learning experience. Let the “quarantine” work for your family, not work against it. Be blessed and be best! God is good!

Republicans should return unemployment checks

I believe that justice demands all conservatives and Republicans should return their Unemployment Insurance Benefits checks to the U.S. Department of Labor because most of them cold-heartedly want to cut and reduce spending on the federal government social programs that help the middle and lower classes. What they should do is what Ronald Reagan and conservatives have been telling needy Americans to do since 1980:

Practice a novel idea and unique concept and help themselves!

Get help from family and friends.

Get help from charities.

Get help from their church.

Why didn’t they save their money for a rainy-day?

Conservatives should stop being hypocrites and practice what they preach.

Get your hands off of my wallet and out of my pockets!

Stop sucking on the taxpayer’s teat!

Why should I have to subsidize you?

Deceased woman gets stimulus payment

My wife and I had $2,400 deposited in our account from the so-called stimulus. We did not want it and did not need it. The money has been distributed to people in real need.

The helpless feeling I had when I saw our government hastily spending money we don’t have was buried deep with a resounding desire to do what I can in my small part to see it doesn’t happen again.

The sick feeling was buried deep in my soul but was ripped to the surface when my sister texted me Tuesday.

My sister reported she had received a check for $1,200 for my mother. My dear mother drew her last breath on this earth on Feb. 12, 2019. The government properly addressed the check with her full proper name with the word deceased after the name. What a joke!

For those who want more government, this is what to expect. I agree with what President Reagan said, “Government is not the solution — it is the problem.”
