Country Roads Food Drive is seeking donations across the state

The Country Roads Food Drive is a statewide food collection and fundraiser to feed families across the Mountain State during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The drive will be from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday. Donations of food at one of the drop-off sites and/or monetary donations are both welcomed.

In Morgantown, the food drive will be held at the Sabraton Kroger, 1851 Earl L. Core Road, where both nonperishable items and/or money may be dropped off.

Monetary donations can also be made online at www.countryroadsfooddrive.com. Pickering Associates will match monetary donations up to $10,000.

Unexpired items such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, peanut butter, spaghetti, pasta sauce, canned meat and other staples will be collected. Cleaning products and personal hygiene items are also welcomed.

Participating United Way organizations include the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties; United Way of Harrison County Inc.; United Way of Marion and Taylor Counties, United Way of Central WV, United Way of the River Cities, United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley, United Way of Gilmer, Lewis & Upshur; United Way of Randolph County; United Way of the Upper Ohio Valley; County United Way, Inc.; and United Way of the Eastern Panhandle.

Food drive sponsors include the United Way, West Virginia Radio Corp., Kroger and Pickering Associates. Kroger will donate $10,000 in gift cards.

“From all corners of this state, people are joining together to make this food drive a success,” said Brett White, president of the West Virginia United Way Collaborative. “While we’re all social distancing during this pandemic, we are still united in supporting our most vulnerable populations, and that’s such a powerful thing to see happening across the Mountain State through this food drive and fundraiser.”
