Frances “Janie” Thorne, 75, of Morgantown, passed away at Sundale Nursing and Rehab Center on April 8, 2020. She was born May 11, 1944, the only child to the late Ada Hart Thorne and Robert Thorne, of Morgantown. After her mother was unable to care for her she made her home on the Kingwood Pike with her Aunt Gertie and Uncle Pat Gilmore. Later she shared a home with her cousin Carolyn Dalton for many years until Carolyn’s health declined.
Jane was a faithful member of Glorybound Tabernacle and prayed for her family daily. She enjoyed her time at Senior Mons at the Mountaineer Mall where she made many great friends and was crowned Prom Queen.
After moving to Sundale, she was loved and cared for by a very compassionate staff. She made special friends with Donna Tennant, Mary Tennant, Brittney Cotrill, Amy Hawkins, Barbie Pratt, Sharon Jackson, Leann Demick, Carmella Wagner, Billie Morell and Joan Vandivner. At Sundale, she enjoyed her jobs making morning announcements, setting tables for meals and knitting gifts for everyone. She loved Elvis and was front row when an impersonator visited Sundale.
Jane is survived by special cousins Norma Stimmell, Bill Hart, Linda Ridgway, Rick, Darlene, Mark and Monica Dalton and friends Elma and Bud Fawley, who were faithful to visit Jane. Also surviving is her cousin and dear friend, Brenda Hendershot, whom she loved like a sister and her husband George Hendershot.
Jane’s favorite outing was going with Brenda and George to Apple Annie’s for her favorite food, spaghetti. The highlight of her life were the visits from her little buddy Gage Hendershot. Brenda would like to thank everyone at Sundale, especially Dr. Schrader, nurses, aids, activity staff and the dietary staff that let her put in special orders for food and her long time hairdresser, Tina Schumber. Your thoughtfulness meant so much to Jane. May God bless you all.
Hastings Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation at this time. A memorial service to honor her life will be announced at a later date. Please honor Jane today by listening to your favorite Elvis song and remember what a special person she was.
