Antique, artisan marketplace will open when it’s safe
KINGWOOD — A new business is moving onto Price Street.
Pockets of Time owner Karen Stone said she and her daughter, Heather Clarke, will open their doors as soon as it’s safe for people to be out shopping. Pockets of Time is an antique and artisan marketplace.
“We are working on it,” she said about the business. “Most of the booths are finished, and we have our sign in the window.”
Stone said she believes the type of business she is bringing to Price Street will offer a variety of products to consumers and could help bring shoppers downtown.
“I saw the building across the street and wished it could be saved,” Stone said about Sweet Annie’s. “I think the past is important, and it should be preserved. I like people, and I like to hear their stories. My grandfather worked on a train. He used to tell me stories about the past.”
Stone said her interest is in antiques. She said she would like to find some antique West Virginia and Preston County post cards that could be reproduced.
“I’m looking for antiques and vendors,” Stone said. “Right now I have two vendors, my daughter and Almost Heaven Candles and More.”
Almost Heaven Candles and More specializes in hand-crafted soy wax candles. They also offer wood crafted items made from hardwood oak, poplar and cherry wood.
Stone’s daughter has her own line of children’s clothing called Sewen to the Moon. Her line of children’s clothing will be available at Pockets of Time.
Stone said Pockets of Time will also sell antiques and other items on consignment. She said consignment vendors will be paid monthly for the items sold in the store.
She said she has 15 booths of various sizes that vendors can rent to sell their wares.
“They can sell whatever they want out of their space, except knives or guns,” Stone said.
She said because the vendors will be selling items that could be difficult to find at other local stores, it will improve foot traffic on the street. She said that this could lead to other shops opening
“I believe people will be able to find unique items at Pockets of Time that they can’t find any place else,” Stone said.
