Ruth Maxine Tichnell, 94, of Rowlesburg, died Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Mon Health Medical Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in the Preston County community of Denver, a daughter of the late Hosea and Edna Shaw Funk.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She loved spending time with her family, family genealogy and attended the Christ United Methodist Church, Rowlesburg. Mrs. Tichnell’s work history included being the bookkeeper and co-owner of Tichnell Refrigeration, the first female to work in the office of Alpha Portland Cement in Manheim, Pa., worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Department of the Navy and the U.S. Census Bureau, TRW in Cleveland and the Peoples National Bank in Rowlesburg, where she retired. She graduated from Rowlesburg High School, Class of 1943, was a member of the Rowlesburg Historical Society, a volunteer at Szilagyi Center Hooten Library, the Preston County Historical Society, a past board of directors’ member for Preston County Senior Citizens, a past board of directors’ member for COLE (Coalition on Legislature for the Elderly), was celebrated as a Rosie the Riveteer and was recognized as a West Virginia History Hero.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Loughrie and husband Daniel, of Rowlesburg; her son, Don Tichnell and wife Carolyn, of Masontown W.Va.; four grandchildren, Brandy Loughrie-Moore and husband Joseph, of Houston; Johnathan Loughrie and wife, Katherine of LaVale, Md.; Shannon Langiotti and husband, Freddie, of Tampa, Fla., and Travis Tichnell and wife Faye, of Terra Alta; five great-grandchildren, Liam Moore, Amelia Jo Tichnell, Rylee Moore, Anna Loughrie and Molly Loughrie; three step-grandchildren, David Morris, Dana Morris and Shelley Martin and husband Reggie; one step-great-grandson, R.J. Martin; three sisters-in-law, Gloria Nestor and husband Paul, of Dayton, Ohio, Tina Tichnell, of Aurora, and Betty Funk, of Elyria, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Duncan G. Tichnell; her son, Charles Funk; two sisters, Wilma Chidester and husband Clyde and Kathryn and her husbands Calvin Lee Rogers and Forrest Moore; her brother, E. Dale Funk; a special sister-in-law, Georgie; and brother in-law, Fred Tichnell.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
