MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University High’s Ashten Boggs was named Class AAA first team all-state by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association. Boggs averaged 18.9 points and 3.6 assists per game this season.
“It’s a feeling of relief because after what happened at the state tournament, I was still able to impress people,” Boggs said. “It’s also nice knowing I’ll be leaving University being known to be first team all-state.
Boggs’ season was cut short when the girls’ state tournament was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Hawks were set to face Parkersburg in the semifinals, a rematch of last year’s state title game.
Morgantown’s Kaitlyn Ammons was named captain to the second team all-state team. Ammons averaged 16.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game this season. The Mohigans reached the state tournament for the first time since 2016 but fell to Woodrow Wilson in the first round.
Four more area players — University’s Abbie Coen and Mallory Napolillo, and Preston’s Carsynn Sines and Michelle Thomas — were named honorable mention.
