‘Non-essential’ meetings cancelled

The City of Morgantown released a statement regarding its response to the coronavirus.

In the statement, the city notes it will cancel all “non-essential” meetings through March.

The statement reads, “While there are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19, aka Coronavirus, in West Virginia, it is something that city administration is taking very seriously. In an effort to limit public interaction, as recommended by Gov. [Jim] Justice, we have decided to cancel all non-essential board and commission meetings through the end of March.”

The canceled meetings announced Friday are:

6 p.m. March 19 — Museum Commission

6:30 p.m. March 19 — Human Rights Commission

4:30 p.m. March 23 — Tree Board, City Council Chambers

8:30 a.m. March 25 — Housing Advisory Commission

4:30 p.m. March 25 — Urban Landscape Commission

7 p.m. March 25 — Historic Landmarks Commission Roundtable

4 p.m. March 26 — Land Reuse and Preservation Agency

6 p.m. March 26 — Woodburn School Redevelopment Commission

The statement continues, “City officials are currently working with the Monongalia County Health Department and other local and state organizations through the Joint Information Center (JIC) to ensure that our community is well informed and that we are doing everything we can to protect your health and safety. We have included a link under the quick links section on the homepage of our website titled, “COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Guidance” which links to the Monongalia County Health Department COVID-19 webpage. This page is updated every day with new and accurate information, including COVID-19 prevention and more. As the city receives additional information through the JIC, we will share it with the community through our channels.

“Additionally, the State of West Virginia has created a COVID-19 hotline, which can provide the public with accurate information about the virus, the state’s response and more. The hotline is operated by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and operators are available 24/7, toll-free at 800-887-4304.
