MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — On the second day of competition, three members of the West Virginia swimming and diving team qualified for finals at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, on Tuesday.
Redshirt sophomore Jacob Cardinal Tremblay and freshman Holly Darling qualified for finals for the second consecutive day, as Tremblay competed on 1-meter springboard and Darling on 3-meter. Sophomore P.J. Lenz also competed in the finals for the men.
Eight Mountaineers competed on Tuesday, while a total of 41 men and 56 women competed on the second day of the championship. The top 18 divers from the preliminary round reached the finals in each event.
“Today was another great day for the divers, and I’m really proud of Holly, Jacob and P.J.,” WVU diving coach Michael Grapner said. “Today’s competition was tough, and they all pulled it off with some very consistent prelim and finals dives. With both Holly and P.J. in qualifying position, as a coach, it was difficult to stay calm. I thought the divers handled it very well though, and I’m excited to see what they do tomorrow on platform.”
The meet concludes Wednesday, with action beginning at 11 a.m. at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. The women and men are tabbed to close competition on platform. Live results from the meet are available at divemeets.com.
