Mon Health provides community events for American Heart Month

Throughout February, Mon Health Medical Center held various events and provided opportunities to raise public awareness of American Heart Month.

Employees across Mon Health System participated in the American Heart Association National Wear Red Day on Feb. 7, while Mon Health Medical Center hosted a public luncheon at The Village at Heritage Point to provide women’s heart health education.

Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital held its Annual Healthy Heart Fair Feb. 12, serving 100 patients. Participants were eligible to receive free and low-cost health screenings, including blood pressure, EKGs, blood glucose, arterial doppler and cholesterol. Mon Health Heart and Vascular Center cardiologist Dr. Wissam Gharib also presented women’s heart health education at the event.

Also, Mon Health Heart and Vascular cardiologist Dr. Richard Smith and other Mon Health employees gathered at Pantry Plus More in Morgantown to sort roughly 6,000 pounds of food to be distributed to

13 schools in Monongalia County to promote heart healthy meals and awareness. This program is sponsored by Mon Health throughout the year.

While raising awareness throughout the month, employees could buy red Mon Health shirts with a portion of the proceeds donated to Mon Health Heart and Vascular patients.

“Our Heart and Vascular care teams strive for excellence and recognize the need to provide public education to the communities served by Mon Health,” said David Goldberg, Mon Health president and CEO.
