Alan Jenks

The Rev. Dr. Alan W. Jenks, 85, of Morgantown, passed away Sunday Feb. 16, 2020, at his home. He was born March 23, 1934, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, a son of the late Mildred Bailey Jenks and William Jenks.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Denda Slaughter Jenks; daughters Rebecca Clay and Elizabeth Jenks; son Phillip Jenks; grandchildren Avery and Zane Haase; brother Morton Jenks and many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Stewart Jenks.

The Rev. Dr. Jenks grew up in New Mexico, which he always considered his home. After high school graduation he served four years in the United States Navy and attended Harvard College and Divinity School. The Rev. Dr. Jenks was a professor at Duke and West Virginia Universities, and active with the WVU community also playing cello in the WVU Orchestra. He also maintained a congregation as an Episcopal Reverend at St. Michaels Episcopal Church in Kingwood and attended St. Thomas a Becket in Morgantown.

The Rev. Dr. Jenks most precious moments were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always willing to lend an ear to any whom needed counseling and a desire to make all feel welcome and share what knowledge he had to give. He also made trips to teach in Israel and take part in peacekeeping efforts in the Middle East with a childlike ability to learn about all walks of life and the people in them making an impact on people everywhere he went.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Hastings Funeral Home.
