Man accused of sexually assaulting a preteen girl

A 56-year-old Kingwood man was accused of sexually assaulting a preteen female relative over a period of several years.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department charged William Scott McKinley with 10 counts of first-degree sexual assault against a person under 12 .

The department received a report that McKinley abused the 12-year-old girl and asked to forensically interview her, to which her parents agreed, according to a criminal complaint.

In that interview, the girl said McKinley started molesting her by watching pornography with her on his laptop, while touching her.

The abuse continued and escalated to sex acts, despite the girl asking McKinley to stop, the complaint said.

The sexual assaults began when the girl was 7 or 8 and continued up to and including when she was 12, according to the complaint.

McKinley is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

If McKinley posts bond, he is not allowed to be alone with anyone under the age of 18, be within 100 yards of the alleged victim or have direct or indirect contact with her, according to court documents.
