Medical experts agree children need at least nine hours of sleep per night.
Sleep problems and a lack of sleep can have negative effects on children’s performance in school, during extracurricular activities, and in social relationships, but a new service offered at the Mon Health Sleep Center could make a big difference in diagnosing those types of issues.
In an effort to increase accessibility for pediatric sleep care, the Mon Health Sleep Center now offers pediatric sleep studies for children ages 13 and older.
The rooms approved for pediatric sleep studies are private and have a comfortable place for a parent to sleep, who is required to stay with the patient overnight. The sleep center also offers refreshments and meals for the patient.
“By offering this type of specialized testing so close to home, we are making it a lot easier for children to get testing done,” said Dr. Andrzej Jaworski, a pulmonologist at Mon Health Pulmonary Care. “Our hope is our location and hours will allow more families to schedule testing, and we will be able to help them get one step closer to a sound night’s sleep.”
Pediatric patients must have a referral to get a sleep study performed. To schedule an appointment, call 304-599-7934.
