Driver of car hit by boulder identified

The driver of the car  hit by a boulder falling onto and across Monongahela Boulevard Monday was identified as a 65-year-old woman.

Michaela Martin, Morgantown spokesperson, said Susan Cramer is being treated at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital for severe injuries. Initially, Martin told media outlets all involved suffered minor injuries.

Martin could not identified the two West Virginia University students who were riding in the PRT car that was hit be a large portion of the boulder. They were also taken to the hospital Monday.

The Dominion Post reached out to WVU for that information.

Morgantown will play a limited role going forward as the incident did not happen on city property, Martin said.

The Morgantown Police Department will work with WVU Police on traffic and safety issues.

The boulder fell from WVU property and the hillside also involves a West Virginia Division of Highways right-of-way. Figuring out the stability of that hill will take a cooperative agreement by WVU and the DOH, Martin said.

Boulders have fallen from that hill in the past but is not a regular occurrence and doesn’t always result in a police response, Martin said.

The Dominion Post has contacted the DOH about other incidents in that spot.
