Court sentences man for sexual abuse, another for burglary

A burglar and a man who sexually abused a young girl were sentenced in Monongalia County Circuit Court this week.

Judge Phillip Gaujot sentenced Michael Ammons, 64, of Fairview, to 30-60 years in prison on Tuesday. Ammons pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual abuse or assault by a parent, guardian, custodian or person of trust.

The sentences, 10-20 years for each count, will run consecutively and Ammons will be on extended supervision for 50 years following his release from prison.

The victim was 11 years old when the abuse began, according to Monongalia County Victim Assistance Program Director Kelly Streyle.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gabrielle Mucciola prosecuted Ammons.

Gaujot also sentenced Garrett Glover, 31, of Morgantown, to one-15 years in prison for burglary.

Glover attempted to break into a home on Smithtown Road while a 17-year-old girl was home alone. At the sentencing, the 911 call from that girl was played, Streyle said. Bodycam footage showing Glover at the home was also viewed.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Chad Noel prosecuted that case.
