WHEELING, W.Va. — Kaden Metheny and K.J. McClurg combined to score 45 points as the University High boys’ basketball team defeated Class AAA No. 4 Wheeling Park, 70-50, on Tuesday.
Metheny led the Hawks (14-3) in scoring with 23 points, while also recording five assists and four steals, and McClurg netted 22. McClurg finished the game shooting 10 of 12 from the field. Mike Maumbe collected 10 rebounds. Ryan Niceler only scored two points, but put together a very nice defensive game.
“I thought our kids executed the game plan well,” UHS coach Joe Schmidle said after the game.
University will play again at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Wheeling Park in the OVAC semifinals (location of the game has yet to be determined).
