Preston girls use big fourth quarter to edge Philip Barbour 55-51

PHILIPPI, W.Va. — With six players getting over the flu, the Preston girls’ basketball team got off to a rough start Tuesday night on the road, being down as many as 20 points in the second quarter.

The second half was a completely different story, especially the fourth quarter. PHS stormed back, outscoring the Colts 25-9 in the frame, to earn its 10th win of the year, 55-51.

“We started to have some energy and enthusiasm and you could tell some of the girls were starting to feel better,” Preston coach Brian Miller said. “We pressed in the first half and got torched because we didn’t have energy, but the girls listened to the game plan in the second half and we played much better.”

Carsynn Sines scored 19 points to lead PHS, while Michelle Thomas (11) and Breanna Sphar (10) also scored in double figures.

The Knights (10-4) will host Liberty Harrison at 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Senior Night.
