MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia is still putting the finishing touches on the 2020 recruiting class, but the Mountaineers are already making waves for the following year.
Following a junior day stop over the weekend, the program received a verbal commitment from Massillon (Ohio) Washington 2021 wide receiver Andrew Wilson-Lamp.
Wilson-Lamp, at 6-foot-2 and 165 pounds, received an offer from WVU after an impressive performance over the summer, and the Mountaineers remained in close contact after that. That decision to offer a scholarship was only reinforced with an impressive junior season where he earned offers from several other schools such as Pittsburgh, Duke and Iowa State.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect was no stranger to WVU but after visiting over the weekend, was able to get a complete picture view of the program. During the course of the trip, he had one-on-one time with not only head coach Neal Brown but new wide receivers coach Gerad Parker.
“It was amazing. I got to sit down and talk to the coaches individually,” he said.
Wilson-Lamp grew up following former West Virginia wide receivers like Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, so naturally, he was excited to initially add the program to his list. After getting to know the coaching staff and its plans for him, it made it a natural fit.
Wilson-Lamp projects as an outside wide receiver for the Mountaineers and the coaches were impressed with not only his size but his ability to create separation on the outside and highpoint the football. It was traits he consistently showed in a camp setting and that has only continued to translate on the football field as he develops as a prospect.
Wilson-Lamp was on the verge of adding a number of other Power Five offers to his list so this addition is one that undoubtedly will make the coaching staff excited.
For the Mountaineers, it’s a splash for the 2021 class, which now consists of Wilson-Lamp and European tight end Victor Wikstrom. The program will host yet another junior day, the final before the start of the February dead period, and is set to host a number of talented prospects.
