Dina LaRue

Dina Mae Matlick LaRue, 93, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2020. Dina Mae was born to Ruby Matlick in Fellowsville on Christmas Day, 1926.
Dina graduated from Fellowsville High School, Fairmont State College and Ohio State University with a master’s in math education, which she used to teach math in Rivesville and Charleston. On Christmas Day, 1947, Dina married Jim LaRue, and in 1954, the couple moved to Fairmont, where they lived the rest of their lives. Dina kept busy gardening, reading, doing Sudoku, taking long walks with her beloved dogs and visiting with family and friends. She counted on her nightly calls from nephew, Tom Phillips, and she appreciated the help with lawn care she received from her neighbor, Bob Wilson. An incredibly caring person, she was always willing to listen or help out neighbors and family. She was fascinated with medicine, math, science and politics, enjoyed many kinds of music and loved animals of every kind.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dr. James LaRue; her mother, Ruby Dugan; her stepfather, Howard Dugan; five brothers-in-law, Walter Phillips, Fred Dobbs, William LaRue, Windsor Beck and Raymond Campbell; two sisters-in-law, Betty LaRue and Susie LaRue; and one son-in-law, Joseph Jones. Survivors include one daughter, Becky Jones, of Terra Alta; one son, Ted LaRue (Dennine), of Fairmont; three grandchildren, Aaron Jones, Renee LaRue Batten (Jeremy and son, Theo) and Michelle LaRue; two sisters, Betty Sue Phillips and Sherrill Dobbs; one sister-in-law, Delores Campbell; several nephews, nieces and cousins and her fur baby, Daisy Mae.

According to Dina’s wishes, her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry and there will be no services, but if you wish to make a donation, one of Dina’s favorite charities is the Marion County WV Humane Society No-Kill Shelter, 2731 Locust Ave., Fairmont, WV 26554.
